A historic house from 1880 featuring original details is for sale for the low, low price of $105,000. But there is a catch.
The buyer must get along with the ghosts. The home has drawn some attention for its spooky reputation.
“It has been on ‘Haunted in the Heartland’ and was built by one of the original stonemasons of Atchison, KS,” explains listing agent Lauren Pierce, with BG & Associates.
“They did some things on the TV show where they released all of the bad energy and bad juju, so there’s nothing but good people there now,” Pierce adds.

The haunted history
Adam Dilgert built the home for his family, including wife Mary and daughter Barbara. At some point, a relative named Frances also lived in the home. Although they’ve long since passed on, their spirits are believed to be present in the home.
“I have had a few things happen to me. I was cleaning and staging the house, and I bought a rug for the end of the bed. I left the house for 10 to 15 minutes, and when I came back, it was nowhere to be found,” Pierce says. “I searched everywhere and nothing was there, so I chalk it up to the ghosts.”
There was also an incident with a pen. Pierce recalls she and a business associate were both using a pen, which they left on a counter in a room. Later, when they returned, the pen was gone.
The homeowner’s cat was missing once, but then just appeared in a doorway.
“There have been a lot of different occurrences that have happened there, but nothing bad,” Pierce says.

Original elements
The home is 2,002 square feet with three bedrooms and a bathroom. There are original door handles throughout, antique light fixtures, two-tone oak floors, and pocket doors.
“The house has a lot of character and a lot of the original workings in the home. So honestly, the house needs a little bit of TLC, but it’s already up and coming and just kind of needs finishing touches,” Pierce says.
“The perfect buyer is going to be someone that’s going to love it and not care too terribly much about the ghosts and just be friendly with them, and also someone who is going to want to rehab a little bit.”
The home was first listed for $120,000 in October. There have been two price drops since then.

New agent Pierce admits she was a bit nervous about the listing.
“It was the first listing I ever got, and it was very exciting because it is unique. I knew it was going to be a little bit more work trying to get someone interested in buying it because you have to find the right person for this niche,” she says.
Pierce says that she brought a medium through the house who claims to have made contact with the ghosts.
“She said it was funny because they said they enjoy my rug, but I haven’t seen it again and I haven’t seen my pen again,” Pierce says. “But any other time, they gave everything back to the owner, like the cat.”
