The famous former infielder is “bidding” goodbye to his palatial home in New York state.
Yup, it’s auction time for World Series champion Derek Jeter, the retired New York Yankees shortstop, and his Greenwood Lake home.
Purchased for a mere $1.2 million in 2005, this actual castle was once listed for as much as $14.75 million in 2014. Last year, $2 million was shaved off the price.
With seemingly little buyer interest in this unusual spot, a different approach is required.
‘Like fine art’
But why go to the auction block this time around?
Per Diane Mitchell, the listing broker with Wright Bros. Real Estate in Nyack, NY, it’s more efficient this way.
“The auction process has extensive reach to targeted, qualified buyers—and it’s such a unique property, a bit like fine art, which is auctioned off all the time,” she explains.
Indeed, the megamansion is fit for royalty, which means the potential bidding and buying pool is probably rather limited. With six bedrooms, 12 baths, and 12,590 square feet of living space, the property requires a minimum bid of $6.5 million.

Lakefront living
Once known as Tiedemann Castle, and owned by John and Julia Tiedemann (who are distant relatives of Jeter’s), the mansion boasts 700 feet of frontage on Greenwood Lake.
The property is about an hour away from Manhattan.
All kinds of fun can be had here, from boating on the lake, splashing in the infinity pool, playing pool in the game room, and getting a workout in the home gym.
The 4-acre lot includes a lagoon, boathouse, dock, pool house, gardens, waterfall, and even a replica of the Statue of Liberty!
Don’t forget the office, wet bar, sunroom, formal dining space, and guesthouse with a watchtower.

Jeter, 48, has been making his home in the Sunshine State, where he sold his Tampa estate just last year for a whopping $22.5 million.
