$5.8M Marmol-Radziner-Designed ‘Timeless Work of Art’ Lists in SoCal

A three-bedroom, three-bath modern manse in Venice, CA, is so lush that it earned a fitting moniker from listing agent Desyana Willis: The Palms Retreat.

Designed by the architecture firm Marmol Radziner and built in 2010, the 3,116-square-foot home is listed with Willis, of Amalfi Estates, for $5,890,000.

The sellers are the home’s third owners. They snapped up this beauty in late 2021.

And then came the makeover.

Before, the home was awash in dark tones. Now it’s lighter and brighter—with glass, steel, wood, and an open floor plan.

It’s softer and more modern, Willis says. “They completely reimagined the interiors, in terms of cosmetic updates.”

Beautiful millwork and solar-powered, radiant-heated floors were included in the upgrades.

Marmol Radziner was founded in Los Angeles in 1989 by Leo Marmol and Ron Radziner. Another of the firm’s notable projects is its restoration of Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann Desert House in Palm Springs, CA.

Willis calls the home a “timeless work of art” and says the buyer will be someone who is “really into an architecturally styled home and appreciates art.”

With its botanical gardens and walls of windows, the home offers a live-in greenhouse feel—but with retractable walls, so you can open and close them as the mood and weather dictate.

The large dining room sits adjacent to a lap pool, and the kitchen features a large island with a built-in Wolf cooktop.

The breakfast nook is crafted from leather, and out back is a custom-built, Argentinian-style, wood-fired grill.

Due to new laws, “you couldn’t even install a grill anymore,” says Willis.

Sliding-glass doors in the primary suite upstairs open to a spa bath with a sunken tub and wood paneling. Also on the property is a hot tub with a design twist: It’s barrel-shaped and made of cedar wood.

Located just blocks from Abbott Kinney Boulevard, the home has easy access to fashionable shops and restaurants. The beach is a 15-minute walk away.

“Millwood is one of the most desirable neighborhoods,” says Willis. “They have really large lot sizes. What attracts people is the walkability.”

The eventual buyer may also be enticed by the vacation vibe of the home, she adds.

“A lot of people are buying second homes in Venice,” says Willis. “It … feels like a retreat. Every day here is a staycation.”
