A desert-modern domicile known as the “Dialogue House” has talked its way onto the market. The buzzy abode is asking for $2,195,000.
“Perched on an elevated hillside, this is one of the higher houses, so it has particularly great views,” says Scott Jarson of az architecture, listing agent for this modern mansion in Phoenix. Located at the base of Echo Mountain, the home features giant walls of glass with spectacular views of the surrounding mountain preserve.
The home was built in 2001 and designed by Wendell Burnette Architects, known for the luxury Utah resort Amangiri. It has three bedrooms and three baths.
“In the design sphere, it’s well-known,” Jarson says.
The home, which was featured in Dwell magazine, was last sold in 2010 for $406,559. The sellers are parting with the property due to a relocation.
Updated digs
Between 2012 and 2016, the home was renovated and restored. The interior and exterior walls were replastered, and the kitchen and bathrooms were updated with designer finishes.

The lot size is another selling point. At over a half-acre, it’s twice as large as others in the area, Jarson notes. And a resortlike swimming pool provides a serene and sleek escape. The gardens were also recently updated, making this feel even more like a retreat.
The central Phoenix neighborhood borders desirable Paradise Valley.
“Buyers to this area tend to be anchored to central Phoenix [for employment] but still want that feeling of being in the desert,” Jarson says.
While it’s certain the buyer will love modern design, it could easily be a family with young kids or a doctor, due to the nearby medical complexes.
“A lot of people are coming for the architect himself,” adds Jarson. Wendell Burnette Architects has other Phoenix homes in its portfolio, but this one “ends up being a more attainable price range for his designs.”
