Royal Remodel: Peek Inside a Serene Florida Castle on the Market for $3.3M

Remodeled Spanish Castle in Florida

Historic Spanish style meets modern luxury at a remodeled estate known as The Spanish Castle, in St. Petersburg, FL.

On the market for $3,326,000, the four-bedroom home sits on almost an acre—just blocks from the water.

“This property is located in a metro area. But because of the size of the property and the fact that it’s surrounded by walls, you have a real sense of peace and serenity,” says listing agent Glen Richardson, of Smith & Associates Real Estate.

Built in 1920, the 5,374-square-foot residence remains true to its Spanish roots—even after a recent renovation and update.

“When you enter the foyer at the front door, that’s the original chandelier there,” Richardson notes. “There are lighting pieces throughout that are original.”

The home features high ceilings with beams, arched windows and doorways, oak floors, a vintage telephone room, and stained-glass accents.

“When you walk in the front door, you’re just really amazed at how much light is coming through the house,” Richardson says. “They kept the character and the true architectural consistency of a Spanish home, but they put a lot of little upgrades in it to modernize it.”

Richardson says the owners spent at least $200,000 renovating the kitchen. They created a unique island using an 1880s draper’s table from a French silk factory, and they accented the space with antique corbels and modern sconces.

The savvy remodel earned a feature in a recent issue of Cottages & Bungalows magazine.

“They put all of these pieces together, and they really flow,” Richardson says. “They really gave thought to everything.”

The primary suite takes up an entire wing of the house and boasts large closets, a fireplace, and a bathroom.

“What’s really interesting about that [primary suite] is it’s a space unto itself,” Richardson explains. “It has its own private tea garden, and it also has really nice access and seating out to the fountain courtyard.”

Outside, the home boasts a pool with a party-ready patio. Indoor entertaining spaces include a wine room and a billiard room.

“This is naturally just an entertainer’s dream,” Richardson says. “There’s a real natural flow to everything, so when people are there—whether they be inside or outside—they can mingle.”
