Colin Powell was not only a four-star general who served for decades in the Army, but also a trailblazer who held three of the highest positions in the U.S. government.
Powell served as the first Black national security adviser under Ronald Reagan, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under George H.W. Bush, and secretary of state under George W. Bush.
Powell died in October 2021 at the age of 84.
And now, his former home in McLean, VA, just 10 miles outside the nation’s capital, has changed hands.
The home was listed on Oct. 26 for $3,125,000 and sold the following day. The sale price was $2.8 million
The six-bedroom, 6.5 bath mansion is part of the luxury enclave known as Ballantrae Farms. The stately brick home sits on an acre lot.

Beyond the circular driveway, a majestic portico graces the double front doors. An impressive foyer connects to a living room with a fireplace, a paneled library with a wet bar, and a family room with a second fireplace.
A dining room, an eat-in kitchen with an island, a laundry area, two powder rooms, and a sunroom are also part of the package.
All the bedrooms are located upstairs, along with four renovated baths. The primary bedroom features its own sitting area and one more fireplace. A hot tub and sauna complete the lower level.

The home is just minutes from downtown McLean and the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
Powell, a Vietnam War veteran who was awarded two Presidential Medals of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
According to news reports, Powell’s family sold the DC-area home to a private buyer.
