Bring On The Glam: 5 Bathroom Design Ideas That Are Exquisitely Extra

For many homeowners, 2023 holds the promise of a home overhaul, and a brand-new bathroom is at the top of many people’s lists.

This week’s trending decor looks are all about going overboard—especially when it comes to styling your bathroom. And while a maximalist aesthetic in the home has been hot for a while, the following designs take that theme to the next level.

Featuring oversize plants, unusual tubs, bold colors, and patterns galore, the trends below prove that boring bathrooms are a thing of the past.

1. All-pink powder room

One of the best ways to add drama to your bathroom is by covering every available inch of it in a powder pink, like this one from @katiearmour.

“I’m all in favor of making the powder room the star of the show,” says designer Robin DeCapua, of Madison Modern Home. “Pinks and magentas are having a moment, with this bathroom’s rich rosy hue being absolutely on-trend. The lavender undertones pull it squarely into the complicated color world, inviting comparisons to wildflowers like heather. This look would be appropriate for any historic home like a Craftsman, Victorian, or Tudor.”

2. Continuous floor tile

Why use two different types of floor tiles for inside and outside the shower when one gets the job done? This singular tile look from @heidicaillierdesign not only makes the space look bigger but also brings a cohesive elegance that we can’t get enough of.

“Continuing the same tile pattern on the shower floor adds the feeling of a peaceful retreat to the primary en suite,” says DeCapua. “Laying bathroom floor tile in a continuous, unbroken line from the sink area to the walk-in shower is a great way to make a space feel larger, and a large-scale patterned floor tile brings life and energy to the enclosed space.”

3. Tropical shower tree

Hopefully, the new year brings more travel your way, and nothing sets your bathroom to vacation mode quite like a towering tropical tree next to your shower, seen in this photo posted by @bathroom_decor.
“The wet room trend—which is one large space that contains both a shower and bathtub—needs a touch of nature,” says designer Courtney Wollersheim, of FLOOR360. “Adding an oversize plant to a wet room covered in a hard tile surface softens the space. The humidity and steam from a shower also make for a perfect environment for a tropical plant as long as you have a natural light source like a window or skylight.”

4. XL mirror

Another extra look we love this week? This extra-large mirror that’s perfectly positioned in this bathroom designed by @trush.design.

“Adding an oversize mirror to a wall can make any room feel bigger,” says Wollersheim. “Placing it off-centered is a fresh way to reflect even more light around your space. A round mirror also breaks up the angles of a contemporary bathroom design, softening the hard lines of vanities, shelving, and the shower entry. It’s all part of turning private areas into boldly designed retreats that are inviting and uplifting.”

5. Stone basin tub

A basin tub is the pinnacle of luxury in a bathroom, but a basin tub made of natural stone—like this one seen in a design by @katrin_mood—is extraordinary in the best way.

“Creating a glamorous retreat in your primary bathroom means incorporating one-of-a-kind pieces like this soaking tub,” says Wollersheim. “It’s the perfect marriage of form and function, and it feels like a sculpture.”
