While some design trends stick around much longer than they should (hello, all-gray kitchens and rose-gold hardware), others have well-earned staying power. As we move closer to the new year, we wanted to celebrate some of our favorite design trends of 2022 that are poised to stick around—with a focus on the space you’ll be spending a lot of time in these next few weeks: the dining room.
So, before you gather around your table and reflect on what you’d like the next year to look like, take a gander at these five fashionable dining room looks. Ahead, you’ll find insight from designers and product suggestions that’ll be especially helpful if you’re planning on an interior revamp in 2023.
1. Vintage & craft furniture
Incorporating classic pieces was a huge trend in 2022, especially when it came to vintage and craft furniture, like we see in this dining room from @finding__lovely.
“This trend was so popular in 2022 because it was relaxed, and we all needed a beautiful, multifunctional space to gather with family and friends,” says designer Megan Nelson, of @nestwiththenelsons. “Our homes have to work harder than ever for us. This dining room, and its design with vintage and craft furniture, does just that.”

2. Eclectic light fixtures
Light fixtures are often considered jewelry for a room, and in 2022, eclectic light fixtures like this one featured by @lizmearns were everywhere.
“Eclectic light fixtures are becoming more common in dining rooms because maximalism is having a major moment,” says designer Grace Baena, of Kaiyo. “These bold, unique light fixtures add a fresh, modern touch to any dining room and provide a nice contrast to the vintage dining sets that are so popular right now.”

3. Woven anything
Another unique look we couldn’t get enough of this year? Woven furnishings. We love this look from @sophphphphie that features a rattan sideboard and a woven light fixture.
“Woven, wood furniture offers such a cozy and relaxed feel,” says Nelson. “This look was so popular in 2022 and will continue to be a go-to in 2023 because of its durability, ease, and function. Hard-working homes are a must today and will continue to be as we venture into the new year.”

4. Curvilinear furniture
Got curves? 2022 sure did, especially when it came to dining chairs like the ones seen in this post from @delightfulll.
“These gorgeous curved chairs make such a statement in their steel-blue boldness,” says Nelson. “The circular rug pushes the design even further with its on-trend theme.”

5. Sensual moody design
Another trend we saw (and loved) this year is dark and moody spaces, like this one from @making_walford_magical.
“We have fully leaned into the trend of saturated, moody spaces,” says designer Elizabeth Ryan. “A deep color in the dining room can simultaneously be calming and elegant. It works best if everything—the ceiling, trim, and walls—gets the same hue.”
Get the look: Lean into the darker side of things by adding a moody statement wall with a roll of this floral wallpaper.
